Letters to Luke!
Don’t be one of those guys –
but don’t be the other guy either.
Be one of the guys –
but don’t try to be…if It happens great – if it doesn’t even greater!
Be you at no cost!
Be free – be wild – be love!
But don’t tell her you love her, oh no, no, no don’t tell her you love her unless every nerve, muscle and sinew – every ounce of your blood and guts tells you!
Passion can be fleeting depending on the weather – it may feel right on a hot sunny day – but will it falter when the storm comes? I ask you son as many a men before your father were careless with their words and if you can believe it your Mummy spent a night or two crying – don’t make “Her” cry – the poor young lass, there will be a man than loves her if you don’t.
Be strong and wise – courageous and fearless –
but let your wisdom protect you from needing to be strong and your fearlessness not provoke your courage….there will be time enough where these virtues are called on!
Be successful – whatever that may look like to you! Your father and my most successful days were spent in a basement apartment with no windows, a little plot of dirty green we called a garden and a dream we both worked desperately for…and now my love as your parents nothing gives us more reward – this is not a cliché, you really are the ultimate reason for our existence.
But we do exist without you and you must learn to exist for you and only you – do not get caught up in somebody else’s ideas – be it friends, be it your parents, be it societies – if I reflect at thirty I spent a lot of time idling before I realized it was writing that gave me the most pleasure and being your mother the most happiness and being a wife to your father the most love…
* a side note – your father is a good man – you may see me aggravated at times, that is mostly my doing, depending on where my hormones align in the stars, too much information your saying – but honestly from mother to son you cannot go wrong in his example! There is no one that loves us as much or works as hard for you and I.
That being said whatever your journey – however you get from point A to b – that is it! there are no regrets, there is no other way – this is the biggest mystery in life – one we waste plenty of time trying to solve! sometimes we become so paralyzed that we cannot bare to live a single moment more and so we pick up and shift directions – believe it or not this is part of the journey too.
I have driven in the rain on many a night – lost – but always found my way back home.
My dear we are your home – one day you will grow bigger, and I will wave goodbye as you drive down the driveway, bags all packed – on your fathers command I will be holding back the lump in my throat, that wants to scream and cry – and beg you to stay just one more night – you will leave to build your own home. But our door will always open for you – you will always hold the key!
My final lesson – let your home be your heart!
No sense in four walls – wherever you and your father are I call my home!
I have travelled far and wide to find this home and – now know where my heart can reside in peace and gratitude and most importantly true love – I call my home!
